Reiki for Humans &  Pets

Reiki is pronounced “ray key”. It is formed by two Japanese words, rei, which means “God’s wisdom” and ki which means “life force energy”. Reiki is a universal life energy used by practitioners for healing by the simple act of touch. This type of healing has been in existence since before the birth of Christ. In fact, many scholars believe that Jesus used Reiki since he healed people by a “laying on of hands”. There are descriptions of this type of healing in the ancient Sanskrit texts written before the birth of Christ. For many years, this information was “lost”. Then in the mid 1800’s a Japanese scholar named Dr. Mikao Usui discovered these secrets in the Sanskrit texts but not how to activate the healing. He went on a 21 day quest on the top of a mountain in Japan during which he had a vision as to how to activate the healing symbol. Thus was born the modern day Reiki know as the Usui school. This system was brought to the United States from Japan in the 1930’s by Mrs. Hawayo Takata, a resident of Hawaii. She had become ill while visiting Japan and had been cured by Reiki treatments. All Reiki’s in the United States today can trace their lineage back to Mrs. Takata.

Reiki is a completely non-invasive therapy and applies no forceful pressure to the body or manipulation of the limbs. The patient, lies down on a massage table and is fully clothed. The Reiki practitioner uses about 15 combinations of hand positions. These hand positions are held in a gentle resting position and given ample time for the Reiki energy to channel itself through the practitioner to the client. Reiki works through the chakras (energy centers of the body), balancing the energy flow and creating the optimum conditions for well being. Reiki can be used with any conditions.

Reiki is NOT to be used as a substitute for traditional medical care. It is a complementary form of medicine. It is recognized by the National Institute of Health and is used as a complementary therapy by many cancer institutes. Some Hospice programs also offer this therapy to both the patient and caregivers that they service. Reiki can boost the immune system thus helping the patient heal themselves.
